- It is a requirement of Maritime Safety Queensland that a person is 16 years of age or older to be issued with a Recreational Marine Driver Licence (RMDL) or Personal Watercraft Licence (PWCL).
- A person may attend the training once they are 15 years and 6 months of age. Persons under 15 years and 6 months are not eligible to attend the courses and are not permitted at the training.
- The RMDL is your boat licence and is the one you need to operate a recreational boat powered by an engine over 6hp (4.5kw).
- The PWCL is your jet ski licence and is the one you need to operate a recreational PWC (jet ski). Please note that it is a pre-requisite to hold a current, valid marine licence in order to obtain a PWCL.
- No prior experience is necessary, but by the end of the course you will need to demonstrate you are competent to operate a recreational boat or PWC.
- You must complete a Medical Disclosure Statement prior to enrolment. This will included in the Student Information Pack.
- You need to advise us beforehand if you have any literacy or numeracy issues so that we can consider and advise on appropriate support facilities.
- You must provide suitable identification.
- On successful completion of the course, you will be issued a Statement of Competency (SOC) which, within 6 months of the date of issue, must be validated at a Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Customer Service Centre that issues marine licenses. The SOC is not your licence. TMR charge a licence fee when your SOC is presented for processing.
- Jet skis have weight limits so please discuss with us if you weigh over 100kg so that we can plan your practical training accordingly.
